The University of Iowa Computer Science Department is offering a free Summer Camp this July for 5th grade girls interested in science and technology and the performing arts. It will be a half-day (1:00-4:00) camp July 6-17. Tuition and expenses will be covered by an American Association for University Women Community Action Grant, and though it is being offered through the Belin-Blank Center, participation in their talent search is not required for the camp. A group of girls with diverse interests will be able to work together to create great skits for the robots. The girls will be able to write the scripts and work out the movements for the robots. Here are the links to the websites with more information on the camp:

Lucas' outdoor workday - Saturday March 28
With the help of approximately 50 volunteers (25 kids, 22 adults), Lucas Elementary school's prairie and garden workday on March 28th was a huge success. Here are a few things that were accomplished:
Garden - The garden is ready for Spring planting. Weeds were pulled, beds were turned, and the fence has been replaced!
Prairie - The prairie is becoming a usable outdoor classroom with the addition of benches and tables. The paths were cleared and re-mulched, and additional prairie flowers (including black-eyed susan, purple coneflower, and purple prairie clover) have been added.
Thank you to all of the students, parents, staff and community members who helped - you made a might difference!
