About PTO

The Robert Lucas Elementary School PTO, or Parent Teacher Organization, is made up of volunteer parents, staff and teacher representatives and the principal. Its primary goal is to provide Lucas students with the best educational experience possible.

Lucas PTO makes a Mighty Difference by funding:
  • Technology - Computers, Smart Boards, I-Touch
  • Enrichment - Field Trips, Visiting Authors, School of the Wild
  • Outdoor Educational Playscape - Outdoor classroom space, Nature based play, Prairie Pocket, School Garden, playground equipment
  • Family Activities - Free Family Night, Carnival
Some other notable PTO projects in recent years have included buying the Lucas sign in front of the school, developing the new Mighty Hawk logo, building a storage shed behind Lucas and supporting the school's music and physical education programs by funding the purchase of new instruments and gym equipment.

PTO is led by a president (or co-presidents) and more than a dozen PTO chairs, who help coordinate many fun, family events throughout the year. It also serves as an umbrella for other volunteer groups and activities.

Lucas PTO meets at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of every month in the Lucas MPR, and childcare is provided. (For a full calendar of upcoming meetings and events, visit the PTO blog calendar). The meetings provide up-to-date information on fundraising efforts, allow for open discussion and often address current topics of interest to parents.

PTO is always looking for volunteers, and its meetings are open to the public. If you want to get involved, or simply learn more, contact PTO co-presidents Lori Kramer (tavernlori[AT]gmail.com) and Cathy Coleman [mightyhawkspto[at]gmail.com).
