Get to Know a Mighty Hawk
We are excited to have several new staff members this year, and we'll get to know them better as the year progresses. First, let's meet our new sixth grade teacher, Mr. Andrew Mickunas.
Mr. Mikunas is originally from Des Moines. He got his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Iowa in 2008, and he moved back after completing his master's degree in education.
The Mighty Hawk Messenger: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Mr. Mikunas: As an elementary student I dreamed of being an actor in movies! I liked to perform on the stage. However, after beginning high school, I started to play in bands. I really wanted to write and perform music for a living. I don't think my past self would very surprised to hear that I am a teacher! I always felt loved and supported by my teachers. School was a safe place for me where I could grow.
The Mighty Hawk Messenger: What are your favorite hobbies?
Mr. Mikunas: Riding my bicycle, astronomy, listening to music, watching movies, and writing songs on my guitar.
The Mighty Hawk Messenger: Some other interesting facts about Mr. Mikunas are that he has taught in Berlin, Germany; he loves pomegranate juice; his favorite animal is the blue whale; and he likes tacos and the food at Oasis restaurant.
We are very happy to have Mr. Mikunas as part of the Lucas family! If you see that he has a dark red mustache, now you'll know why. Check back next month to meet another of our new additions.
