Sixth grade girls invited to FREE Mini Med School at UI Feb. 4

The University of Iowa College of Medicine invites 6th-12th grade girls and their parents to participate in a FREE Mini Med School program on the morning of Saturday, Feb. 4. Registration is required and space is limited, so call now (335-8886 or 877-MED-IOWA) or fill out this form to reserve a spot for you and your daughter to learn about women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) careers. More information is available online.

The girls will experience technology and educational opportunities with current faculty and medical students. These interactive, hands-on stations will help girls understand more about STEM careers and give them a chance to be "Doctor for a Day." Girls will also meet and hear from Anne Michael Langguth, a second-year medical student at the UI and Miss Iowa 2009.

Parents will hear three presentations:
  • Supporting and Encouraging Your Daughter to Pursue STEM Careers - Victoria Sharp, MD
  • Adolescent Gynecology - Understanding the latest research to keep young women healthy - Ginny Ryan, MD
  • Talking to your Daughter about her Health, her Changing Body...and More - Holly Bolger, DO
